The AWTT process, headed by a Board of FAA and NWS leaders, is chartered to manage and accelerate the transfer of weather R&D technology into full operations. The Board carries out its charter through the following duties:
- Identify and accelerate implementation of highest payoff, mature capabilities
- Ensure timely readiness of infrastructure, training, and O&M capabilities to implement the capabilities
- Seek and employ input from industry & users
Assisting the process is the Technical Transfer Working Group (TTWG), composed of FAA and NWS personnel in the Board members' organizations. The TTWG lays the groundwork for Board decisions by preparing product documents, assessing the technical merit of emerging products, and interfacing with industry users.
