About AWAD

Introduction

The Aviation Weather Directorate of the Federal Aviation Administration (ARS-100/FAA) has as one of its missions tracking certain data concerning aviation weather observation such as location of weather observing equipment, types of weather observation, and associated costs.  The data is currently stored in the Aviation Weather Assets Database (AWAD), created and maintained by AvMet Applications.  Because of the breadth of topics covered in the database, the information contained therein is useful to many sectors of the aviation weather community.  In order to make the information available to a larger audience of users, ARS-100 is making it possible to query the contents of the database over the Internet.

AWAD Overview

AWAD contains information about the sites at which equipment is located, the equipment at those sites, and human weather observation providers.  AWAD is a relational database and can be adapted to include data on any aviation weather program.  At present, specialties include the ASOS service standards policy and the ASOS commissioning process.

AWAD allows the FAA to keep current and up-to-date information on all of the weather related equipment it controls, owns, maintains, and/or monitors.  The data contained in AWAD is used also to project future equipment needs, changes, and upgrades, and for developing budgetary and fiscal policy.

Online Version

This online version of AWAD uses Cold Fusion programming to interface with the database in its Microsoft Access form.  All data changes to AWAD still occur directly in Microsoft Access.  By running the queries found on this web site, you will generate data dynamically.

At this point in time, data cannot be altered through the web site.  However, a future upgrade of the site will allow authorized personnel to update data live via the web.
