AvMet Applications is always looking for experienced people in the aviation weather arena. This arena includes the following specialties: meteorologists, airline operators, air traffic controllers, and pilots. In addition to our core competencies, AvMet also has supplemental specialties including statistical analysis, system design and analysis, application programming, and web development.

We are currently looking for applicants to fill the following positions:

Analyst
Research mathematical/statistical models using weather and air traffic data. Perform multiple linear regression analysis. AvMet Applications Inc, Reston, VA. Apply  to careers@avmet.com.
 
Systems Engineer (Level 3)
 
Provide system engineering and program management support to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in developing and deploying the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen). Position located in AvMet’s Washington DC office.
 
Key Functions:
 
    • Support the FAA’s acquisition of next generation radar with project management and engineering support activities
    • Assist FAA in analysis of proposed radar design principles and implementation trade-offs, notably proposed phased array radar alternatives
    • Interface directly with FAA client to provide technical input and represent the FAA client.
    • Prepare documents and briefings for formal and informal delivery
    • Requires BS in Engineering and 20 years experience or MS in Engineering and 17 years experience (Note: Degree must be in Aeronautical, Civil, Electrical, Electronic, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering from a college or university with a degree curriculum accredited by the American Board of Engineering and Technology.)
    • Must be a US citizen.

Computer Scientist (Level 4 and 6)

Key Functions:
 
    • Assist FAA client in transition to effective SOA and distributed system architectures.
    • Access architectural attributes, such as service provider reliability, redundancy, availability, etc.
    • Manage, communicate, and contribute to engineering trade-off analysis and feasibility studies.
    • Convey enterprise architectures, technical alternatives, briefs and white papers to support decision-making by FAA senior personnel.
    • Requires BS in Computer Science or related field and 5 years of relevant experience (Level 6) or 15 years of relevant experience (Level 4)
    • Must be a US citizen

Systems Analyst: Applicants with a background in Aviation (FAA controller, Commercial pilot, or policy writers) or in Weather (Weather forecaster or Weather analyst). Ability to work independently and as part of a team and is able to adjust to quickly evolving requirements and deliverables. Good written and oral skills. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Must be a US citizen.

Application Developer: C, C++ programmer with at least 3 years on the job experience. Ability to work independently and as part of a team and is able to adjust to quickly evolving requirements and deliverables. Good written and oral skills. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Must be a US citizen. Applicants with development experience in weather or aviation a plus.
